This Is Us has landed a huge win and not just its Big 3. The entire cast of NBC’s breakout hit won the Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series, which is a huge win for the network as the last time ABC won this category was with Grey’s Anatomy back in 2006.
Sterling K. Brown Wins Big Too
Now we also have to mention that Sterling K. Brown, who plays one of the lead characters Randall Pearson, earned the outstanding performance by a male actor in a drama series award this same night. This makes him the first black actor to win this this achievement since the Screen Actors Guild was established in 1995. Furthermore, Brown has been breaking barriers thanks to his This Is Us character. At the 2018 Golden Globes, he walked away award for lead male in a TV drama – making him the first black actor to do so. Way to go, Randall!
This Is Us Has Tough Competition
Now the show was up against some serious competition, The Crown, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, and The Handmaid’s Tale. Last year, Stranger Things took the coveted award home. Whereas The Handmaid’s Tale had just won best drama at the 2018 Golden Globes. However when This Is Us was announced as the winner, the entire cast cheered loudly with surprise.
We Thank You
Milo Ventimiglia, who plays the wonderful Jack Pearson, spoke on behalf of the cast. He said, “[To] the people that watch with us every Tuesday night and embrace a show that reflects positivity and hope and inclusion, we love you.”
