One major takeaway from the ceremony that everyone noticed, was that it was mainly dominated by female artists and rap. While many rap stars made history, like Childish Gambino and Drake, many top female artists also made history for taking home prizes, and the event also celebrated the milestones of many female performers. So let’s take a closer look at some of the powerful Grammy’s ladies.

Powerful Ladies

The Grammy’s was hosted by Alicia Keys and kicked off the night by with a group of inspiring women. The former first Lady Michelle Obama surprised the audience with her appearance and gushed how “Music has always helped me tell my story. Whether we like country or rap or rock, music helps us share ourselves. It allows us to hear one another.” Other powerful female performers, including Gaga, Jada Pinkett Smith and Jennifer Lopez also took center stage and stood in solidary with Obama.

As the ceremony started, it was also dominated by female artists, so here are some of the highlights.

Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande stole the night for a whole host of reasons, and was recognized for her talents by winning the Best pop vocal album”Sweetener”. Another reason was she was due to perform and then pulled out of the event due to creative differences with the Grammy’s producer Ken Ehrlich. Still, even though she didn’t attend, she still posted some glam pictures on social media and was still the talk of the town!

Cardi B

Cardi B was another female talent who made history as the first solo female to win the best rap album for ‘Invasion of Privacy’. She was shaking onstage with her rapper-husband Offset holding her arm. In true Cardi-style, she said, “The nerves are so bad. Maybe I need to start smoking weed. I just want to say thank you everybody that was involved … I want to thank my daughter.”

Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa Lipa took home the award for Best new artist and graciously told the audience “I guess this year we’ve really stepped up.”

Lady Gaga
