If you’re anything like me, then you get heavily invested in the characters of TV shows and what’s going on in their lives. And if you’re anything like me, whenever anything tragic happens in their lives – you cry violently. That’s why I’ve taken it upon myself to gather TVs most heartbreaking moments…and yes, you’ll want some tissues handy. I used up an entire box of tissues just creating this post, trust me, you’ll need them around.
The Vampire Diaries
Jo and Alaric are getting married! Plus, Jo is pregnant with twins! I am so happy I could cry. Oh wait, I am already crying, no I am bawling and screaming because Jo’s deranged twin brother, Kai, kills her when she’s standing at the alter after the pair just completed their ridiculously romantic wedding vows. Why would you do this to us, Julie Plec?!
The Vampire Diaries
The Originals
Julie Plec, are you trying to take Shonda Rhimes’s title as queen of killing characters off?! Because you’re getting closer to this title. Dear sweet, innocent, strong Cami, we watched you and your life develop into the most beautiful and honest character on this show. So imagine our surprise when you and Klaus finally end up together (yay!) and you end up a vampire and as quickly as all that happens, you die. Granted, you die a beautiful and graceful death but you still die. I am so angry and completely torn apart whenever I watch this scene.
The Originals
Grey’s Anatomy
When the handsome and kind Denny Duquette dies just hours after surviving a heart transplant and proposing to Izzie Stevens. Watching Izzie clutching at her fiance’s dead body, crying her heart out, is enough to make you scream at the TV. This also left me seriously needing to speak with a licensed mental health counselor.
Greys Anatomy
Desperate Housewives
Mike and Susan are finally working things out and seem to be in a good place (and boy did they have issues), only for him to die in her arms after being shot on their own doorstep.
Desperate Housewives

At the end, when Mr. Feeny finally admits his complete adoration for the gang and dismisses his class for the last time.
Boy Meets World
8 Simple Rules
A funny little sitcom isn’t something to usually end up on a list such as this but when John Ritter died in real life, there was really no choice. The cast genuinely mourning his death on the show made this breathtakingly sad.
8 Simple Rules
Smallville
When Clark Kent comes home to find his father, Jonathan Kent, dying of a heart attack in the middle of their farm road, and seconds later, Jonathan’s wife, Martha, arrives to see her husband dying. Hours before his death, Jonathan had just won the seat as Senator for Kansas. In that same moment, you realize that Super Man is losing yet again, another father and mentor – excuse me while I consult my online therapist before breaking down into a million tiny pieces.
Smallville
The Big C
When Cathy’s son uncovers the storage locker filled with future birthday gifts because she’s expected to die of cancer. She wants to always be there for him, and he starts bawling. A mother’s love is endless.
The Big C
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
When Buffy jumps into the void to save Dawn, her sister’s life, her friends, and of course, the world. Buffy’s final goodbye to Dawn is so raw and powerful that I can’t even see the screen clearly anymore because I am bawling like a baby.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Parenthood
When Kristina tells her family she has cancer and they react to her tragic news.
Parenthood
The O.C.
When the beautiful and kind, Marissa Cooper dies in a car accident and you see Ryan holding her dead body in his arms. I mean, come on! She had just finally turned her life around and was going to be happy for once. Plus, the dream of Coop and Ryan getting married is shattered – as is my heart! My mental wellness comes into serious question here because I can’t keep it together anymore.
The O.C
Breaking Bad
Oh, Jesse, you poor soul. Watching Jesse calling Jane’s phone after her death, just so he can hear her voice, is so tragic. And then when her phone gets disconnected – I want to start throwing things because I am just as broken as he is.
Breaking Bad
Futurama
The heartbreaking moment when Fry’s dog waits for him outside the pizza place every single day for 12 whole years until his death. Dog is really man’s best friend and as a huge dog lover, this scene makes me bawl hysterically.
Futurama
Dexter
When Dexter finds Rita’s, his wife, dead body in the bathroom and their son is sitting in the pool of her blood. This scene shattered my heart.

Colonel Henry Blake’s death. He was finally leaving, he was going home and it was just wasn’t fair.
MASH
One Tree Hill
Jimmy brings a gun to school and kills himself, but then we see Dan shoot and kill his own brother, Keith, out of revenge. Dan uses Jimmy’s shooting as a cover up for his own brother’s murder. Watching Luke discovers his uncle’s body is torture and even more so, Keith was finally happy! He was about to be a dad with the woman that he has loved for decades. This scene makes my heart hurt.
One Tree Hill
How I Met Your Mother
When Marshall’s dad dies and he says, “I’m not ready for this.” Excuse me, while I sob like a little baby because I am beyond destroyed.
How I Met Your Mother
Glee
After Cory Monteith’s death, the show portrayed the death of his character, Finn Hudson, and everyone’s reactions. I have only been able to watch this scene twice because I cry too much.
Glee
Game of Thrones
EVERYTHING about the entire “Red Wedding” episode, everything. Especially when Robb says “Mother” and looks toward Catelyn.

When Dr. Cox, the man whose heart seems to be made of steel, just loses his grip after his close friend, portrayed by Brendan Fraser, dies.

When Phoebe is saying goodbye to the triplets. So much raw emotion is that episode, I almost lost it.
Friends
Scandal
Fitz didn’t die but all the blood, hearing “YOU DO NOT DIE”, and ultimately seeing Olivia pick up his United States flag pin before having flashbacks of their time together. *SCREAMS IN SORROW*
Scandal
Grey’s Anatomy
Yes, another one, but how can we not when Shondra Rhimes has put loyal fans through the ringer? First, it was the death of George, Izzie’s cancer and then, the beautiful couple that was Lexie and Mark. WHY?! I can’t decide if hearing Meredith crying over her sister’s dead body is worse then the fact that Mark and Lexie were about to get their happy ending but now never would.
Greys Anatomy Mark And Lexie Die
Pretty Little Liars
When the PPL gang and Emily show up at Maya’s house and find out she’s been murdered. When the Maya’s body bag is wheeled past Emily, her girlfriend, she breaks down. I’m breaking down right with her every time.
Pretty Little Liars
Sleepy Hollow
When witness, bad a** FBI agent, Abigail Mills, dies sacrificing her life to save countless others, fans think it’s a joke. But no one’s laughing here. I mean how could the couragous and beautiful Abbie die just when she has patched things up with her estranged father, told her boss and friend that she still loved him, and she had finally become friends with her sister again. Not only that but watching her tell Crane to move on without her, that he would be okay, was just too difficult to watch.
Sleepy Hollow
Sons of Anarchy
Jax’s suicide on the same highway that his father died. This is no way to finish a series!
Sons Of Anarchy
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air
When Will’s father leaves him for a second time, and he asks Uncle Phil why his dad doesn’t love him. “How come he don’t want me?” When Will asks this question with tears welling up in his eyes, I am furious at Will’s father and am sobbing hysterically. If computers were around then, maybe Will could have found some comfort with online counseling but for now, a hug from Uncle Phil will do.
Fresh Prince Of Bel Air
Dawson’s Creek
Again, another horribly crushing series finale. We flash forward five years and see that Jen is a mom! Great, right? NO. Jen dies because of undiagnosed heart condition and leaves behind a heart wrenching video to her daughter before she dies. That is just cruel.
