Goldie Breaks Out
After finishing their first film together, Goldie and Kurt continued on their own paths – separately. Quickly, Hawn’s career began to take off. Just one year after wrapping The One And Only, Genuine, Original Family Band, Hawn received an Academy Award for Supporting Actress for Cactus Flower. Fans fell in love with her comedic timing, and lined up to see her films. She even won another Oscar nomination for Private Benjamin.
Country Singin’
Goldie became America’s darling in the 1970s – she could basically do whatever she liked. In addition to acting in movies, Goldie began to branch out. She hosted two TV comedy specials: one in 1971 called Pure Goldie, and another in 1978 called The Goldie Hawn Special. She then branched out even further by signing a deal with Warner Brothers to record a country music album! The self-titled album performed only modestly, despite help from country greats Dolly Parton and Buck Owens.
