Cassandra Peterson’s face is familiar to 1980s television watchers, at least when she is dressed as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. According to reports, Peterson tried out for the role of Ginger Grant in Gilligan’s Island before landing the role of horror hostess. Fortunately, she was cast as Elvira, a vital role. Peterson was also well-known for her portrayal as Elvira in the television series Elvira’s Movie Macabre, as well as the films Elvira, Mistress of the Dark and Elvira’s Haunted Hills. Apart from her acting career, Peterson rose to prominence after coming out as a member of the LGBTQ community.
