Lee finally felt she had outdone her sister once and for all, but just when she was feeling comfortable, Jackie took things to another level. In 1961, John F. Kennedy was elected President. This meant Jackie not only became the First Lady of the United States, but also lived in the White House. Lee understood that her sister’s accomplishments rendered everything she had done in their feud irrelevant. She was not only displeased; she was so upset that she declined to attend the most important day of Jackie’s life, Kennedy’s inauguration. While she claimed to be nursing her newborn child, she was not deceiving anyone.
