Due to the negative reports Walter got, he was assigned one of the prison’s worst jobs. He and a few other prisoners had to clean the roads. To do this, they needed to wake up before everyone else, get on a bus, and travel to Raleigh to pick up trash.

The Plotting Begins
Walter recalled, “It was awful. People would be throwing hamburgers and milkshakes at you. And it was almost winter, so it was starting to get cold.” Despite the bad conditions, Walter saw this as an opportunity. “That’s when I started planning and plotting,” He said.
