Quickly, Walter’s life changed from being free to do what he wanted to having to follow the juvenile detention’s strict code. “I hated everything about that place,” Walter said years later, complaining about the bad food, but more importantly, the violence. “I still have scars from all the times I got beat up,” he said, despite the fact that it had been years since he’d been at the center.
