Later that evening, as Jennifer was cleaning up the kitchen, Petunia barged in, her face contorted with rage. “What are you doing spending all of my son’s hard-earned money on your laziness? Petunia spat, her voice poisonous. Jennifer recoiled, her hands quivering as she grasped the dishcloth more tightly. “I-I am not wasting anything, Mrs. Keeling. I’m only doing my best…” but Petunia didn’t listen. She continued to scold Jennifer, her remarks becoming louder and more harsh with each passing instant. Joe had stepped out and was not present to defend her.
